Dvirka and Bartilucci Consulting Engineers (D&B) has been providing the complete spectrum of remedial design services to industry and government for over 20 years. Our experience in providing design services for the remediation of hazardous waste sites includes a broad range of site conditions and technologies. The bottom line…. our portfolio includes a long list of sites that have been successfully remediated as a direct result of designs prepared by the firm.

The firm has performed pre-design investigations, treatability studies and pilot tests; prepared feasibility studies, engineering design reports, remedial design contract documents and engineering cost estimates; as well as providing pre-award services to clients for state and federal superfund sites, RCRA corrective action sites and brownfield sites.

Pre-design investigation services provided by the firm include: characterization of site geology and hydrogeology for remedial design; delineation of soil and groundwater contamination for treatment or removal; waste characterization sampling of contaminated media for disposal; aquifer pump tests and floating product recovery tests. The firm has supervised treatability and pilot studies in connection with evaluating and establishing design parameters for: soil washing, solidification/stabilization, solvent extraction, zero-valent iron injection, phytoremediation, chemical oxidation, air sparging, soil vapor extraction, dual phase extraction and metals removal from groundwater (i.e., precipitation), among others.

Comprehensive engineering design reports, plans and specifications have been prepared by the firm for:

• Soil, geosynthetic and composite liners
• Phytoremediation and evapotransportation covers
• Air sparging, soil vapor extraction and in-situ air stripping
• Groundwater extraction and treatment
• Permeable reactive barrier walls
• Zero-valent iron injection

Many of the remedial designs the firm has completed have been for Superfund sites and were publicly bid projects. As a result, our responsibility frequently includes pre-award services such as coordinating pre-bid meetings, technical evaluation of bids, preparing recommendations for award, and review of contractor submittals. D&B is also well qualified and possesses extensive experience in providing remedial construction inspection services.
