Dvirka and Bartilucci Consulting Engineers (D&B) has provided extensive hazardous waste site consulting services to federal, state, and municipal governments, and to private industries, including Fortune 100 companies and major utilities. D&B’s extensive experience in the investigation and remediation of hazardous waste sites results from successful completion of over 60 superfund projects, in addition to numerous projects at non-registry contaminated sites. Projects have ranged in site size from less than one-quarter acre to over 125 acres.

Investigation and remediation by D&B has addressed a wide array of active and inactive hazardous waste site facilities, including:

  • municipal, industrial and C&D landfills
  • fabric mills and dry cleaners
  • aircraft manufacturing plants
  • railroad maintenance and fabrication facilities
  • tool manufacturers and metal platers
  • oil, solvent, metal and drum recycling facilities
  • chemical storage and transfer facilities
  • vehicle repair and printing shops
  • steel manufacturing and fabrication plants
  • glass coating and metal casting facilities
  • heat treating and furniture manufacturing facilities
  • dredge spoil disposal sites
  • electronic component and computer chip manufacturing facilities

Site investigations have included nonintrusive geophysical and radiological surveys, soil boring and test pit construction, direct-push probe and monitoring well installation, soil vapor surveys, collection of soil, soil vapor, water, waste and air samples, and field gas chromatography analysis.

Remedial design has included groundwater extraction and treatment, drum and soil excavation, low permeability barriers, air sparging, soil vapor extraction, in-well air stripping, non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) recovery, and soil recycling. Remedial plans developed by D&B have focused on cost effective solutions that have integrated remediation with planned site development and improvement.

Treatability studies and pilot tests for evaluation of remedial technologies have been conducted for soil washing, solvent extraction, chemical fixation/stabilization, solidification, thermal desorption, air sparging, soil vapor extraction and dual vapor extraction, and bioremediation.

Construction supervision services provided by D&B for hazardous waste sites have included evaluation of construction bids, contractor negotiations, review of shop drawings, preparation of change orders, review of payment requests, full-time construction inspection, preparation of project completion and certification reports, Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, and monitoring and contingency plans.
