Dvirka and Bartilucci Consulting Engineers (D&B) provides Geographic Information System (GIS) services for municipal clients in disciplines as diverse as hydrogeology/groundwater management, public works engineering and infrastructure management. GIS represents the culmination of information management technology, combining plans or readily available digital mapping with virtually all types of computerized information.

GIS allows the user to query, analyze and display spatially related information which is accessed through maps, plans or other drawings. The information linked to the plans can include text, tables, databases, CAD drawings, scanned images or other digital information.

D&B personnel participate in periodic GIS training in order to best utilize the latest technologies in the servicing of both existing and new clients. The firm also has installed the additional computer equipment and software necessary to support the GIS implementation group.

D&B has developed applications for Fire Districts, Facility Managers, Water Districts, Villages, Towns, Cities and Counties. The completed software and hardware systems allow the user to integrate the tabular or graphic data with computerized maps or plans. Retrieval, analysis and display of this data is then greatly simplified when managed geographically.

The practical use of the GIS system within the user’s organization can be made immediately through the use of simplified "tool bars," computerized and designed to quickly execute those functions commonly used by each user group. The processing of powerful search and query commands can then be performed by personnel with little or no GIS or even computer experience. The advent of powerful laptop computers allows access to this information "on-site."
