Dvirka and Bartilucci Consulting Engineers (D&B) is an expert in all aspects of wastewater treatment and water pollution control including odor control systems which include tank covers and odor treatment. The firm has engineered hundreds of waste-water treatment projects, ranging in capacity from 25,000 gallons to 350,000,000 gallons per day.

D&B has completed odor surveys which included taking air samples on-site and off-site, computer modeling, and characterization of odors. The firm has experience in source identification, facilities planning, alternatives evaluation, final report recommendations, design report, detailed plans and specifications, and operations assistance services for mitigation of odors.

D&B has provided odor control systems in preliminary, primary, secondary and sludge treatment process areas. Odor control for raw sewage pumping stations both on plant and in remote collection system areas have been evaluated, designed and put into operation.

A key part in any evaluation is the odor treatment system(s) to be utilized. An odor treatment system must be matched with the treatment process/source of the odor to be effective. Collection/ventilation and all ancillary systems are important components to an effective system. Fans; chemical feed pumps, air compressors, water softening equipment, reactor vessel materials, instrumentation and controls, and ductwork must all be selected carefully for the intended use.

Cover selection includes an analysis of factors such as aesthetics, constructability, durability, maintenance, profile, structural integrity, and other essential features. In addition, odor control systems can create high operations and maintenance costs if not properly designed. Effectively designed systems will allow for the desired odor mitigation while minimizing electrical requirements, air flow, heat required and chemical usage.

D&B is a full-service firm and has an experienced staff to take projects from the planning stage through design and construction completion. Necessary operation and maintenance manuals, training and overall start-up services are a part of D&B’s many projects. D&B also specializes in construction related activities including resident engineering inspection, construction management, review of shop drawings, preparation of schedules, CPM scheduling, start-up/training services, and emissions permitting.
