2011 Engineer of the Year

Henry J. Chlupsa, P.E., President of D&B Engineers and Architects, P.C., was named the 2011 Engineer of the Year by the Westchester/Putnam Chapter of the NYSPE Society on Saturday, February 26, 2011. He also received the New York State PE Society Engineer of the Year on June 10, 2011 at the NYSPE Society annual meeting in Rochester, NY.

Nicholas J. Bartilucci Honored

On September 15, 2010, a Recognition Dinner was held at the Fox Hollow Inn honoring Nicholas J. Bartilucci.  Over 150 family, friends and colleagues celebrated a lifetime of service, commitment and accomplishment in both his professional and personal life.

Nicholas J. Bartilucci, P.E. and Dr. Timothy Ward, Dean of the School of Engineering, Manhattan CollegeNick’s professional career spans over 50 years in civil and environmental engineering. He has received countless awards and accolades for his leadership in industry organizations and has championed water quality management issues on Long Island and throughout New York State, resulting in the betterment of our environment and quality of life.

Nick’s personal life reflects the same commitment and dedication to service. His contributions to community, fraternal and charitable organizations paint a picture of outstanding accomplishment. Nick serves as Chairman of the Board of the Jericho Water District, Trustee of the Village of Laurel Hollow and Vice President of the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum.  He has also served as a member of the Board of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Association and as First Vice President of the Center for the Developmentally Disabled.  Nick is also very active in his church, St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in Syosset, and his alma mater, Manhattan College.

At the Recognition Dinner, Nick received tributes from family, long time friends and associates, and proclamations from New York State Senator, the Honorable Carl L. Marcellino; from the Presiding Officer of the Nassau County Legislature, the Honorable Peter J. Schmitt; from the Honorable Chris Coschignano, Councilman of the Town of Oyster Bay; from the Mayor of the City of Glen Cove, the Honorable Ralph V. Suozzi; and the Mayor of the Incorporated Village of Laurel Hollow, the Honorable Harry Anand.  The emotional highlight of the evening was a presentation by Dr. Timothy Ward, Dean of the School of Engineering, Manhattan College. Dr. Ward presented a plaque that will dedicate a new conference room in the School of Engineering at Manhattan College, named the “Nicholas J. Bartilucci ’54 Conference Room.”

D&B Senior V.P. Recognized As Top Long Island Environmental Consultant

Each year, the Long Island Business News (LIBN) publishes a “Who’s Who” list of the top Long Island environmental engineers, consultants and company executives who make significant contributions to the betterment of the environment and quality of life on Long Island. This year, the LIBN selected Rich Walka, D&B Senior Vice President and Director of the Environmental Remediation and Multimedia Compliance Division, for his outstanding 35+ year career in the environmental industry. Rich’s career spans over 12 years of service as a charter member of the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) – Region 2 and 23 years with Dvirka and Bartilucci Consulting Engineers (D&B). Over this period, Rich has been responsible for countless projects that have resulted in environmental improvement which have created a positive impact on our local communities, as well as communities throughout the State.

Rich and his staff have been involved with a wide variety of environmental compliance and remediation projects. They have advanced significant environmental improvements in major industrial/manufacturing operations, hospitals and healthcare facilities, colleges and universities, commuter railroads, and petroleum retailers. Also, they have supported clean up of hazardous waste sites throughout New York State and assisted municipalities and private clients address liabilities associated with historic groundwater and soil contamination. Under Rich’s direction, the Environmental Remediation and Multimedia Compliance Division has supported dozens of clients on hundreds of projects with budgets ranging from several thousand dollars to tens of millions.

All of us at D&B extend our congratulations to Rich for this honor and for his extraordinary career achievements, as well as to his staff for their contributions in bettering our environment and quality of life.

2010 D&B Promotions

Robert L. Raab, P.E.

D&B is pleased to announce the promotion of Robert L. Raab to Vice President. Mr Raab is a  member of D&B’s Wastewater Collection and Treatment Division. Mr. Raab has over 35 years of environmental and civil engineering experience on the federal and local government level. His experience in the pubic sector includes serving with the USEPA - Region 2, both as a Project Manager with the Environmental Impacts Branch (6 years) and as Section Chief with the Superfund Program (6 years), and later with the City of Long Beach (22 years) where he held the position of Commissioner of Public Works/City Engineer. Mr. Raab is experienced with the planning, design, and construction of a wide variety of infrastructure projects related to wastewater, water supply, roadways, drainage, solid waste, parks, bulkheading, municipal buildings, and erosion control, among numerous others. Mr. Raab will apply his diverse experience to an equally diverse range of D&B projects, primarily in the areas of wastewater, drainage, and civil engineering. New NYWEA Chairperson

Rob DeGiorgio, P.E., from the White Plains office, has been elected Chairperson of the New York Water Environment Association’s (NYWEA) Lower Hudson Chapter. Rob will serve as chairperson for a three year term.  He has been active in NYWEA for over 10 years serving on the Board of Directors and as Secretary.  He has presented multiple papers at various NYWEA conferences.  We wish to congratulate Rob on being elected to this prestigious position and wish him good luck as Chairperson!
