Dvirka and Bartilucci Consulting Engineers (D&B) is an expert in all aspects of wastewater treatment and water pollution control. D&B has engineered hundreds of wastewater treatment projects, ranging in capacity from 25,000 gallons to 350,000,000 gallons per day. D&B’s expertise includes preliminary, primary, secondary and tertiary treatment; sludge thickening, dewatering and residuals management.
Process systems include activated sludge, high rate biological trickling filters and rotating biological discs. Sludge processes include gravity and flotation thickeners, centrifuge and belt press dewatering, aerobic and anaerobic digestion, incineration, composting, chemical stabilization, heat drying, pelletization, and other beneficial reuse processes.
D&B has handled numerous advanced treatment plants, which include multimedia and sand filters for enhanced solids removal, nitrification for reduction of organic loading on receiving stream and denitrification and phosphate removal for nutrient control.
For disinfection, D&B is versed in the usage of chlorine and sodium hypochlorite. Modification of existing facilities switching to liquid sodium hypochlorite for safety considerations is a specialty. Where the receiving stream does not permit chlorine, either dechlorination by using alternative disinfection systems such as sodium dioxide or ultraviolet disinfection can be economically evaluated and designed.
Special process review studies include odor surveys which include on- and off-site monitoring, computer modeling and odor characterization. Odor control systems have been designed for preliminary, primary, secondary and sludge process areas.
In order to meet present day budget constraints, D&B can conduct a facility review and make recommendations for a program of continuous improvement with the goal being enhanced operation of the facility while reducing overall operation and maintenance costs. Increasing demands for better effluent quality must be met while holding operation and maintenance (O&M) costs/rates relatively constant. D&B is uniquely qualified to assist the client in conducting its own program without loss of control of that facility through full contract operations or other privatization alternatives.
D&B’s staff also specializes in construction related activities including resident engineering inspection, construction management, review of shop drawings, preparation and updating of schedules, O&M manuals and start-up and training services.
